Ode to Barack Obama
There’s a young man named Obama
Of Kenyan dad and Kansas mama
Who’d rend the country color blind
And open biases that close minds
From Hawaii to the Carolinas
His name’s exotic to some ears
Even too foreign some fear
But this needs no explanation
He’s a true child of this nation
We’re all from elsewhere than here
He runs against old John McCain
From another generational plane
The more he feigns at changes
The more he echoes sameness
To emulate Bush is to praise him
Bush ran on fear and smear
While Rove brought up his rear
Unlike anti-Clinton slanders
It’s with truth Bush philanders
In the worst presidency in 200 years
McCain cries Teddy Roosevelt
Like a bully moose on a glass pulpit
He’ll find the guilty parties says he
Though his party’s the one that’s guilty
Which sounds less reformer than culprit
To belie and disprove his aged mien
He’s run a juvenile ad campaign
Criticizing Obama’s celebrity
He damns him for good oratory
As if intelligence must be shamed
Beware the inarticulate and crude
The illiterate, proud and rude
Hear our words physically limn
The hidden contours of our minds
Unless intentionally misconstrued
All his prior positions he’s changed
To worse ones he prior disdained
A Trojan sheep in maverick’s cover
He would roll the odometer over
And continue to spread the mange
He’s a fighter pilot of some acclaim
Bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb McCain
He prefers wars we can’t finish
As troops and treasury diminish
Elect him for more of the same
McCain is innocent he complains
Of the charisma Obama has, plainly
To him progress is a foreign notion
And a nation unified ocean to ocean
He regards as downright insane
As home foreclosures keep mounting
He has too many houses to count ‘em
His low road to the past is fast tracked
The high road to the future ransacked
So as change agent you must doubt him
His VP pick next to Biden is certainly Palin
Whoever she is she’s no Hillary Clinton
She’s more a hail Mary Sarah
Pass from half baked Alaska
Than real change we can put stock in
These do nothings wouldn’t make changes
When they last squandered their chances
But diverted government dollars
To enrich their camp followers
Stole our money and tipped us chump change
To trust a republican to bring first aid
To the troubles republicans first made
McCain rails at the party he would lead
If they aren’t worried shouldn’t we be
It’s not too bloody likely, I’m afraid
Republicans, masochists, give us a break
Quit rewarding your own past mistakes
We’ve already done dumb once
Halt this confederacy of dunces
How much less cost would excellence take
Your ignorance, prejudice, fear and war
Are indulgences we can no longer afford
Unite, join forces, raise hands
Give what election aid you can
Let’s turn them out before they do more
Clearly Barack Obama is the man
With the only transcendent plan
Instead of no, won’t, why should I
Can’t, nope, why, not gonna try
He unifies with hope and yes we can
Their sole advantage is our division
As they run the nation to ruin-nation
vote Obama for generational change
the only antidote to more of the same
Don’t support the plague but its solution
